Røros (sometimes also Bergstaden – rocky town) is a Norwegian mining town where copper has been mined since ancient times. After the town was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1679 during the Skåne War, it was completely rebuilt with only one- and two-storey wooden houses. Many of these houses still have black wooden facades and this gives the town its unique style and appearance.
