Monument to emigrants in Kviteseid

According to many different people, Norway is almost a promised land for its citizens. The happiness index is almost at an all-time high, the oil reserves are almost inexhaustible, and thanks to its social policies you will find few people in Norway who are materially deprived in any significant way.

However, this was not always the case. During the 19. century, nearly a million people left Norway and about 600,000 of them went overseas, mostly to the United States. And there were tens of thousands of people from the Quiteseid area. And it is to them that this monument is dedicated.
