Rjukan

Rjukan is a beautiful town in the Telemark region of Norway, located in the Vestfjorddalen valley. It is located in a valley along the Måna (or Måne) River and is bordered on both sides by high mountains. It was named after the nearby Rjukanfossen waterfall and has been a tourist centre since time immemorial.

Due to the town’s location far to the north and the high mountains in the immediate vicinity, no sunlight reaches the town in winter. That is why the inhabitants had a set of mirrors built so that they could at least get some direct sunlight during the winter months.
