At this point on the Eidelva River, there were originally about 2 kilometres of rapids with an elevation difference of 25 metres. The entire site was completely rebuilt in 1887-1892, creating a dam, a set of five locks in a series and a 25-metre waterfall.
The entire lock system is still original and bustling with activity.
